A new tradition at Durham Christian is our beginning of year campout at Ontario Pioneer Camp. The whole school, staff and students spend 3 days relaxing and celebrating the beginning of a new year together. There are only a few requirements for Camp – show up for meals, participate in devotions, participate in campfire, and go to bed on time. After that, the time is yours to enjoy hiking, canoeing, relaxing at our own private beach, bocce ball, euchre, chess tournaments and lots of fellowship! This is where relationships are bonded and grow!
Every year, the Grade 10 class embarks on a week long adventure in Toronto. Organized by Mr.Jones our Bible instructor, the class experience 3 days on the streets of Toronto learning hands-on the challenges that the homeless and the poor face everyday. Lodged in a downtown church, the students spend their days volunteering at food banks, shelters, drop-in centers and meet the many dedicated social workers and volunteers that meet the needs of the homeless on our streets. It is an amazing week of eye-opening, heart rendering experiences for teens who may have never had the opportunity to walk a few days in the shoes of the poor.
Our Athletics program offers competitive sports teams for both girls and boys. Our teams compete in regional league games and invitational tournaments. Sport teams we have supported are volleyball, basketball, soccer, badminton, cross country running, track and field and hockey.
Student Parliament’s mission is to be an integral part of the Durham Christian High School community. By holding spirit days, dances, banquets, after-school events, and more, our goal is to strengthen the ties between students, teachers, and visitors. We aim to be influential leaders in the Christian community to serve God and others.
Every 2 years, our students have the opportunity to register for the Europe trip. Past trips have included itineraries to Rome, Florence, Venice, Zurich, Paris, Amsterdam. This is an excellent opportunity for our students to see the pages of their history and art books come to life.
Weekly chapels and assemblies give our students the opportunity to hear from a variety of speakers, ministry representatives, and discussions that broaden their understanding of activities that are being conducted locally and abroad. The Praise and Worship class also show their leadership in the planning and presentation of the opening worship component of the chapels.
Our Yearbook class runs the year collecting and designing pages for the yearbook production. This is a very practical class where the students involved learn and develop their skills in photography, journalism, graphic design, photoshop, and print design.
